NSCAD jeweler's pin design captures leadership, impact of Take the Lead champions

Our Discover Halifax team is constantly in search of new ways to collaborate and innovate. We challenge ourselves and others to think differently, and to get creative as we help bring people and events to our beautiful region.

Our Take the Lead program is no different. It celebrates and supports local leaders in Halifax who Take the Lead and attract high-value events to Halifax. These leaders’ impact is huge, as events we attract to our region bring around $60 million in economic spend per year. This makes our city, economy and communities stronger.

This impact was celebrated in a big way on Apr. 28 at the Annual State of the Municipality. After winning a design competition held in partnership with NSCAD University, third-year NSCAD jewelry student Meichan (Amy) Yuan brought the ideals of our Take the Lead program to life, in a fine jewelry pin she designed to represent leadership and Halifax.

“I believe water and ocean represent the identity of Halifax. …A straight line and circle exemplify the qualities of a leader – strength, integrity and principle. The circle amethyst feature on the pin signifies the event champion taking an adventure with the event by riding high on the wave,” she says.

Each pin was gifted to our Take the Lead champions, who we celebrated together at the event: Laura Hopper, Kelly Serbu, Jason Gu and Patrick Sullivan. To help us celebrate our champions and learn more about how you can Take the Lead, visit taketheleadhalifax.ca.
