Impactful Experience

IKEA Neighbourhoods: Furniture Building Challenge

Offered by: IKEA Neighbourhoods

Overview

Turn teamwork into tangible community impact. In this lively, hands-on experience, event delegates collaborate to assemble new furniture that will furnish shelters, transitional housing, and permanent homes for those escaping violence and homelessness. By transforming the familiar IKEA build into a spirited competition, this experience brings people together to tackle a pressing local issue: furniture poverty. In partnership with IKEA and Halifax-based housing organizations, every table or chair built during your event helps create safe, welcoming spaces for people rebuilding their lives.

How it works

Teams gather in a friendly, facilitated challenge to assemble IKEA furniture kits—racing against the clock for recognition of speed, teamwork, and creativity. Facilitators share stories from local partners, giving participants insight into how their efforts directly support families and individuals transitioning out of crisis. Once completed, all furniture is quality-checked and delivered to community housing programs across Halifax.
