Information Systems for Crisis Response & Management Conference

2025

In 2025, Halifax welcomed the global Information Systems for Crisis Response & Management (ISCRAM) Conference to the Marriott Harbourfront Hotel, drawing researchers, practitioners, and emergency management experts from around the world.

Centered on the theme of “Coastal Disasters,” the event explored pressing issues like forest fires, flooding, cyber security, and the role of drones and UAVs in prevention and response. From research panels led by Dalhousie University’s Transportation & Civil Engineering Group to offsite experiences at the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21, the Alexander Keith’s Brewery, and even a helicopter search and rescue demonstration in the harbour, attendees left with not only new insights into disaster response but also a fresh appreciation for Halifax’s resilience.

Role of the Host Committee

The Host Committee was instrumental in weaving this experience together. Their efforts stretched from managing logistics, finances, and social media to mobilizing local graduate students as volunteers and coordinating partners like the Canadian Coast Guard and RCR Hospitality. By welcoming international visitors with thoughtful programming and ensuring seamless execution, they helped position Halifax as a hub for global dialogue on disaster preparedness and response. Thanks to the Host Committee’s vision and dedication, ISCRAM 2025 not only advanced critical research but also showcased Halifax as a community that knows how to rise to the moment.
