The More the Merrier
After a day of productive meetings and inspiring sessions, don’t just let your delegates go back to their hotel rooms where a comfortable bed, cable TV, and room service beckon. Give your conference attendees something worth putting their shoes back on for by taking advantage of one of Halifax’s incredible large group experiences.
We’ve collected a few of our favourite ideas to get you started, but there’s plenty more to see, do, and experience. Not seeing something that speaks to you? Just ask! Our knowledgeable team is filled with great ideas for how to make your time in Halifax truly memorable.
From cruising around on a bright pink double-decker bus to a ribbiting ride on the infamous Harbour Hopper or a sunset cruise, Ambassatours offers tours on land and sea around Halifax and the surrounding area. And these aren’t just your standard tourist highlights either. The team at Ambassatours have hosted groups from across Canada and the world to provide the ultimate East Coast Experience.
Head out into the Halifax Harbour for a floating kitchen party aboard the tall ship Silva, where your delegates become honorary crew members by helping to hoist the sails before sampling Atlantic Canadian-themed food and drinks set to a soundtrack of live local musicians. Ambassatours have also hosted large groups on both George’s and McNab’s Islands in the heart of the Halifax Harbour, where our famous East Coast hospitality is on full display and your delegates can let their hair down and have some fun after a busy day of meetings and events. Many past participants have had such a good time during their conference experiences that they’ve brought their families back to Halifax for vacation so they can enjoy more of the East Coast lifestyle.
Strap on a helmet and lace up your skates, it’s time to log some laps around the Emera Oval. Located steps from downtown in the heart of the Halifax Common, the Oval offers year-round fun for large groups. In the winter, the Oval turns into an outdoor skating rink, and when the weather is warmer, you can rollerskate, bike, or scoot your way around the track. Shake off a day of being inspired inside by getting a healthy dose of activity and fresh air. Group bookings are available for groups of 20 people and above.
Get a real taste for Halifax through sampling some of the city’s incredible food and beverage offerings on a private, guided tour either on foot or with transportation. Craft beer lovers can sample some of Halifax’s most innovative brews, or chow down on Halifamous dishes like the donair or signature seafood snacks. Taste Halifax Food Tours also offers culinary road trip adventures to nearby Peggy’s Cove for a seaside glimpse of one of the area’s most popular attractions and tastiest culinary hotspots.
Locals know you don’t need a watch to know when it’s noon in downtown Halifax—just listen for the daily ceremonial cannon shot from the Halifax Citadel National Historic Site. Sitting high above the city, the fortress is hard to ignore, so why not go inside the historic stone walls to see what all the fuss is about and learn more about Halifax’s history? Your group can step into the past as a kilted guide from the 78th Highlanders takes you on a guided tour. You’ll get to explore from the vast parade square to atop the ramparts while learning insights and anecdotes about the lives of the soldiers who lived and worked in the Citadel during the 19th and 20th centuries.
If you’re looking for something a little more atmospheric, the Citadel also offers ghost tours hosted by a historically costumed guide. Led by candlelight, you’ll explore the tunnels and prison cells deep inside the Citadel and hear true tales of unexplained events.
And if guided tours aren’t on the agenda, you could opt to welcome folks in a big way at the start of your next event. The Halifax Citadel Society offers a solo bagpiper, Highlander Guard, or Sentries for hire to greet your guests as they arrive at your venue. Talk about a welcoming committee!
Take your delegates for dinner and then to a show at Neptune Theatre, the largest professional theatre company in Atlantic Canada. Catch a performance of a well-known classic, or find a new favourite by taking in a smaller or experimental show produced and performed by one of Halifax’s many local talents. Special rates are available for groups of 20+, with more favourable rates available for groups of 41 members and above—just reach out to Group Services to plan your evening.
Neptune is located in the heart of downtown, in the middle of bustling Argyle Street, making it the perfect place for a night of entertainment after a productive day of meetings.
