Getting to & around Halifax

Transportation made easy

Halifax is the largest urban centre on Canada’s eastern coast. Home to an award winning, international airport, Halifax is as easy to get to as it is to get around, once you’re here. Below you’ll find information about routes, on the ground transportation, accessibility and Halifax’s Transit’s Event Transit Fares Program. Depending on where you’re travelling from, you may also be interested in learning about Canadian visas and immigration.

A quick flight from major hubs

Halifax is geographically closer to Boston and New York than any other Canadian city, and an hour closer by plane from Europe than any other major North American City. Halifax Stanfield International Airport offers non-stop flights to major Canadian, US, and European cities including New York, London, and Frankfurt. The airport is a 25-minute drive from downtown Halifax and offers Canada Customs services 24/7, and U.S. pre-clearance.

Transportation available to downtown Halifax includes uber, rental car, limo, or city transit (Regional Express Route 320).

Compact city that’s easy to navigate

Halifax’s downtown core is filled with shops, restaurants, sights and experiences, as well the Halifax Convention Centre and more than a dozen hotels. This means most of your delegates won’t need a car or arranged transportation between venues and hotels while they’re here. Of course, they can still choose to rent one at the airport, but we recommend booking in advance.

Halifax is a wonderful city for walking or cycling (bikes and scooters can be rented on the waterfront boardwalk). Strolling from one end of downtown to the other takes less than 30 minutes and includes some interesting sights and sounds and major landmarks. Of course, you can always hop in an Uber, or a cab, or on a bus if you change your mind about the stroll.

Event Transit Fares Program

Some events may want to consider bulk transit fares for their attendees. Through Halifax’s Transit’s Event Transit Fares Program, you can now purchase bulk transit fares for a minimum of 100 attendees at a rate of $1.00 per event ticket. The tickets work for all Halifax Transit’s conventional bus routes, ferry, and Access-A-Bus. There ferry from Halifax to Alderney is a fantastic way to see the Halifax skyline without breaking the bank and gives access to more delicious restaurants, innovative breweries and local shops.
